Senior Packaging Developer
Summary: Packaging materials
specialist who will coordinate assigned innovation/renovation/cost reduction
projects by evaluating technical viability of concept, coordinating packaging
development, and successfully executing commercialization of packaging projects
at internal and external manufacturing locations. Manage graphic prepress and on-press
activities, develop packaging material specifications, palletizing
specifications and packaging operating specifications.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Research and development
of packages, investigate and recommend packages, packaging materials and
associated packaging technologies with emphasis on retail trends and
innovation.
2. Manage graphics prepress
and on-press activities.
3. Develop and maintain packaging material specifications, palletizing
specifications and packaging operating specifications.
4. Manage packaging
materials optimization and cost reduction. Author, coordinate and
oversee packaging test requests.
5. Provide technical support
to Marketing, Sales, Technology and Operations teams in trouble shooting and
solving packaging material performance problems. On capital projects ensure
packaging materials and machinery are compatible.
6. Lead graphic support
related packaging supplier search, qualification, bids and contract negotiations
as necessary.
Must maintain the highest

Education
and/or Experience
Bachelor's
degree in packaging materials from a four-year college or university and three
to five years of progressively more responsibility and experience in the food
industry or an equivalent combination of education and ten years of experience
is required in the food industry with progressively more responsibility and
experience.
Language
Skills
Ability to
read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional
journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from
groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical
Skills
Ability to
work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference,
and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning
Ability
Ability to
define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete
variables.
Computer
Skills
To perform
this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database
software; Design software; Development software; Internet software; Inventory
software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software, TOPS Engineering
software and Word Processing software.
Certificates,
Licenses, Registrations
Institute of Packaging
Professionals Technology certification.
Membership
in the Association for Manufacturing Excellence preferred.
Membership
in the Institute of Supply
Management preferred.
Other
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
of package converting processes and technologies.
Knowledge
of package graphics and printing processes.
Knowledge of packaging substrates (rigid and flexible plastic, fiberboard, paper, corrugated).
Networking with external packaging material suppliers and internal
customers.
Other
Qualifications
Travel 10 - 20% of the time.
