Packaging Specialist/Project Manager

 
POSITION SUMMARY: Coordination of assigned innovation/renovation/cost reduction projects by evaluating technical viability of concept, coordinating packaging development, and successfully executing commercialization of packaging projects at internal or external manufacturing locations.
Lead and/or provide technical packaging expertise on cross-functional project teams. In a technical lead role, demonstrate joint accountability with business lead partner for overall project success by providing cross-functional team leadership and project management.
Conduct all activities in compliance with established safety standards, GMP's and Company guidelines and requirements. Travel and working off-shifts required to support projects and/or as assigned.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project management for renovation/innovation project/process improvements/second sourcing projects/cost savings projects. Leading cross functional teams and providing technical insight.
Evaluate the technical viability of a packaging concept during development.
Coordinate all technical services activities to scale up for commercialization and product launch. Conduct plant trials. Assist with post-launch monitoring as needed. Establish timelines and key milestones.
Document observed results, analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations during packaging development activities and plant trials.
Update databases as needed (e.g GLOBE,..). Update and maintain packaging specifications and databases. Coordinate workflow for new or revised specifications.
Perform second-source supplier testing ' plan, organize, and execute plant trials. Report findings and conclusions based on the results. Ensure QA documentation is up-to- date and approved.

Provide technical assistance and trouble shooting support to manufacturing locations and other departments (e.g purchasing, quality, engineering) ' e.g. packaging equipment selection/design, packaging procedures and improvements, second-source identification and qualification, cost savings projects.

A four-year degree in packaging engineering, engineering or manufacturing is preferred. 3-5 years experience in food industry, including manufacturing support. Experience working with co-manufacturers is desired. Proficiency in computer skills (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel) is preferred. Interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal communication, organizational skills, project management skills, computer skills must all be strong. Creative thinking and results focus.
