PURCHASING SPECIALIST

 

SUMMARY:   Obtain quotations, prepare and place purchase orders for all inventory items, equipment and supplies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Review material requirements and inventory quantities to identify materials to be purchased, place purchase orders, confirming price and delivery to meet production needs.

 

Look for alternate/new sources of inventory and non-inventory materials and supplies that meet company requirements for lower price within quality specifications and availability.

 

Review approved purchase requisitions and place purchase orders for material, supplies and/or services that meet company quality, quantity and availability at a competitive price.

 

Take corrective action when materials, supplies or services received do not meet approved quality standards.

 

Maintain all purchasing records.

 

Perform data entry for raw materials inventory.

 

Perform freight booking by truck and Air/Ocean.

 

Produce legal and official documents such as Export documentation and Truck Bill of  Lading.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  No current  supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college plus two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:            Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,

professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units

of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:         Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out

detailed but uninvolved written or oral instruction.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Forklift License preferred.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel.  To reach with hands and arms, to climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. Able to lift up to 40 lbs.  Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; also depth and perception, ability to adjust focus.
